When you think 20 is the right age to live alone:
Keep a light in the hallway on.
Make it look like someone is waiting for you after work.
Make coffee in the morning.
Your mothers soup in the evening.
Make sure your apartment smells like
someone else lives there.
Don’t wear her flannel to bed.
Let the shower steam
creep out the open door of the bathroom
Make the fire alarm go off in the hallway.
Turn it off by standing on an IKEA chair.
Hope it doesn’t break like it has before.
Leave the TV on while you sleep.
Wait for the televangelists to tell you that you’re saved.
Wake up when someone makes enough noise
to make you feel less alone.
